“Considering the information that has recently appeared in the public space regarding the mention of my name in a file under the supervision of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), as a witness, and taking into account the fact that the investigation is currently underway, I would like to make the following clarifications: I acted in full compliance with the law and with my own convictions, considering that every citizen has a moral and legal duty to report facts that may harm national security”Berceanu wrote on Facebook on Saturday evening
The former head of the Environmental Guard explained that “as the investigation is still ongoing, I cannot provide further details until it is completed“.
“I can only confirm that I was invited, at the beginning of September, as a specialist in environmental policies, to a meeting held in a public space, under the pretext of offering consultancy for a project in the field of environmental protection. The discussion ended with a proposal to participate in a business scheme aimed at the armaments industry”, said the former leader of the REPER party.

Octavian Berceanu added:
“I specify that I did not previously know the person who contacted me and that there is no relationship of friendship or collaboration between us, contrary to the erroneous information circulated in the press. After this meeting, I informed the competent bodies and collaborated with the authorities in the framework of the legal procedures. I believe that only through honesty, transparency and courage can we build a just and integral society. I remain firmly against any form of corruption, regardless of the context, and I believe that each of us has the responsibility to combat”.
