The Estonian minister appeals to China to put pressure on Russia. “They have real opportunities”

“An open and honest conversation with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, including on bilateral relations, global security and Russia's war with Ukraine,” wrote Minister Tsahkna on X on Thursday evening after the end of his visit to Beijing. It was the first official trip of the head of Estonian diplomacy to China in 10 years.
According to the Estonian minister, China not only has real opportunities to help end Russian aggression against Ukraine, but can also contribute to the return of deported Ukrainian children. Estonia, he stressed, has offered China cooperation in this matter.

“We condemn all actions that directly or indirectly support Russia's aggression against Ukraine and call for cooperation to prevent Russia from circumventing sanctions,” he added. According to him, the EU sanctions are part of broader efforts to respect international law, and China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, “plays a key role and bears responsibility” for defending these principles, including the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
During his visit, Tsahkna thanked China for never recognizing the Soviet occupation of Estonia.
