Ah jo… A Czech “mole” on the Polish railway? Intercity notifies the prosecutor's office. ABW is investigating messages from RegioJet

PKP Intercity alerted the services after the company's president received “disturbing” messages from Radima Jančura, owner of the competitive RegioJet, in which the Czech businessman was to warn the president against unfair competition and more.

According to WP, the message is in fact a long letter in which the owner of the Czech private carrier not only warns PKP Intercity against unfair tactics, but also goes a step furtherhe also boasts of a strong position in the European Commission and influence among journalists and politicians.
According to the editorial office, the case was referred to the Internal Security Agency, and PKP Intercity itself, in response to questions from the portal's journalists, informed that the matter of messages from the Czech competitor sent to a telephone messenger was being investigated by the prosecutor's office.
A Czech mole on the Polish railway?
Messages on the messenger, because in addition to the letter there was also a message – sent days before the Czechs appeared on Polish tracks. The suggestion of unfair competition and threatening influence in the media was to appear again, but also suggestion of the presence of a mole.
– I perfectly understand that this is a new situation for you and you feel that you have to react to it somehow – begins the author of the message to the Polish president and after a while he adds:
“We have always won, thanks to the pressure of the media and, above all, the European Commission. Then our opponents withdrew. For the European Commission, RegioJet is a laboratory for opening the railway market in Europe – it responds to our requests for the interpretation of EU regulations within 1-2 weeks.”
However, as Wirtualna Polska describes, only the next words raised alarm in PKP. Later in the letter, there are statements about employees of companies with which RegioJet competes in the region, and who are ready to take information from their companies and pass it on.
“At the same time, in all Group companies (including PKP IC) there are people who believe in the future of the open market and provide us with evidence of attempts to block our entry,” he added.
The Czechs confirm this and have nothing to reproach themselves with
The Czech carrier RegioJet assured WP that it had nothing to blame and confirmed to us that their owner sent informal messages to the president of PKP Intercity via WhatsApp.
However, Poles react completely differently. At PKP, the news was perceived as disturbing, full of accusations and suggesting the possibility of exerting pressure using friendly politicians and journalists, as well as – or perhaps above all – gaining access to the secrets of the Polish carrier. Therefore, the company responded with an official letter to Jančura.
PKP talks about slander that harms the company's good name
According to Wirtualna Polska's findings, PKP Intercity decided to formal reply to the “disturbing” news that the company's president received from Radim Jančura, the owner of RegioJet.
In a letter of September 10, 2025, signed on behalf of President Janusz Malinowski, the Polish railway carrier first of all questioned the communication channel, firmly emphasizing that the WhatsApp application is not an appropriate tool for conducting official correspondence, especially in matters of such a serious nature.
But above all, PKP Intercity firmly denied all allegations formulated by a Czech businessman.
“We strongly oppose unjustified accusations of anti-competitive activities and public suggestions that any alleged illegal or unethical activities against RegioJet took place within the structures of PKP Intercity SA or other companies of the PKP Group,” it was noted in the response.
The Company assesses such statements, made without specific and verified evidence, as: “containing signs of slander and damaging the good name of PKP Intercity SA and the companies of the PKP Group”.
The Polish carrier clearly denied Jančura's insinuations about attempts to block RegioJet, calling them “completely baseless”.
“Your insinuations in this regard are completely baseless and we perceive them as an attempt to exert unjustified media and political pressure,” we read in the letter.
PKP Intercity also warns that the narrative “based on generalities” and suggesting “behind the scenes activities” undermines trust in market mechanisms in Poland. The company made it clear that “if this type of unsubstantiated information continues to be disseminated” it will consider taking “appropriate legal action.”
