Shutdown in the US. Record duration
The political stalemate has lasted 35 days, tying the record for the longest shutdown in U.S. history. The reason for this state of affairs is the conflict regarding health insurance subsidies, which led to a situation in which more than one million federal employees are working without pay, and 750,000 people are on forced leave. They will receive the outstanding funds only after the new budget is adopted.
On Monday, Senate Republicans rejected the Democrats' bill that would have fully funded the SNAP program. Meanwhile, the effects of the shutdown are becoming more and more felt, including flight delays and temporary grounding of planes at airports across the country.
