VIDEO Anca Alexandrescu, after Călin Georgescu made it clear that he does not support her at the Capital City Hall: I knew in advance that he would make this statement

The AUR candidate in the race for the Capital City Hall, Anca Alexandrescu, said on Tuesday evening that she would “never” have dared to ask Călin Georgescu to support her, in the context in which the former candidate in last year's presidential elections made it clear that he does not support any candidate for the vacant position in Bucharest.

In the Marius Tucă Show, from Gândul, the moderator from Realitatea Plus stated that she knew in advance of the public announcement made by Călin Georgescu and that there is a friendship between them.

“I knew in advance that Mr. Georgescu was going to make this statement, we have a friendly relationship. I would never have dared to go to Mr. Georgescu to ask him to support me,” she said.

She also claimed that everything she did recently with Călin Georgescu and George Simion was out of conviction and not out of political interest. Also, Alexandrescu rejected the accusations that he would have invited the former presidential candidate to her shows on Realitatea Plus to have an audience.

“Everything I did in the last year, together with the sovereignists and Messrs. Georgescu and Simion, I did because I believed in this and believed in sincerity,” said the AUR candidate.

“There are many who accuse me of calling Mr. Georgescu to make an audience. I would never have dared to ask him for such a thing, because I was the biggest supporter of the second round back. Mr. Georgescu is very clearly sending his supporters to do something. We can't stay in front of the screens and phones and let them take everything! We end up with USR taking 9% of the entire country!”, she added.

AUR candidate for the Capital City Hall

The leadership of AUR decided on Monday evening, with unanimous votes, to support Anca Alexandrescu in the elections for the Capital City Hall. President George Simion said that AUR is making a sacrifice, but the decision is a gesture of responsibility towards the sovereignist electorate.

AUR President George Simion said that the party has given up supporting its own candidate in favor of the best-placed candidate from the sovereign zone. “We chose to make a sacrifice because we are fair people. We did polls and the only one in the public space who has shown her intention and has a real chance of winning is Anca Alexandrescu. It is the cause of the Romanians, not of the sovereignists,” said Simion.

Anca Alexandrescu stated that she will not join the AUR, so that she has the ability to bring to the same table all the parties represented in the General Council of the Capital.

She stated that she is an “independent candidate” supported by several parties, “led by AUR”.

When asked if she would involve Călin Georgescu in her campaign, Anca Alexandrescu said: “I don't need proptel. I am recommended by what I did (…) Everything I did for Mr. Georgescu, (…) for the sovereignist movement, for AUR and for all Romanians who love this country and implicitly love Bucharest too, I did it from the heart and from faith.”

Călin Georgescu's reactions

On Sunday, Georgescu had a first reaction regarding the elections for the Capital City Hall, calling them “a farce organized under the guise of good”. “Attention, I have not asked any party, new or old, to speak on my behalf. Anyone who claims to do so is choosing a lie. An illegitimate government cannot make legitimate elections, neither in Bucharest nor anywhere else, and no one can convince me otherwise. We have the precedent of canceling the elections of December 6, 2024 and the masquerade of May 2025. Therefore, I cannot believe in these elections in Bucharest and I believe that the electorate should think twice before validating a farce organized under the guise of good”, stated Călin Georgescu, in a video posted on Facebook.

“In an almost macabre way, on December 7, it is one year since the annulment of the elections that buried democracy and freedom in Romania, and now we are asked to legitimize the fraud from that time. For me, this is unacceptable, it is a line of dignity that no free man can cross. If those elections had not been annulled, we would not have needed elections in Bucharest today. When democracy returns to this country, I assure you, there will be elections free everywhere, not just in Bucharest. That's exactly why I can't get involved in any way, not because I refuse, but because I can't believe in these elections,” said the former presidential candidate.

On Tuesday, Călin Georgescu again used the word “farce” referring to the local elections for the Capital City Hall. Asked by the Romania TV reporter if Anca Alexandrescu's candidacy, supported by AUR, seems to him “a betrayal”, Georgescu denied it, but added that “everyone does what they think”.

“All these elections are a farce and I have no reason to comment. That's all. I, along with the Romanian people, are waiting for evidence about the theft of the elections, not stories. Until one more time, the vote of the Romanians was stolen. From this point of view, I cannot have a serious approach to these elections”, declared Călin Georgescu, on the steps of the police station, where he signed the judicial review.

The former candidate supported by the AUR party, both before the cancellation of the second round of last year's elections and until the rejection of his candidacy for the May 2025 elections, was asked by a journalist from Romania TV if he considers entering the race for the local elections to be a “betrayal”.

“It's not true. I expressed my point of view and everyone does what they think. Because it's free will. I can't say anything else in front of the Romanian people other than that he won. I participated with the Romanian people, once, in the elections and I won. Those elections were stolen and, therefore, there is no longer any certainty that these elections will be free”, answered Georgescu on Tuesday.
