Traffic restrictions on the Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge, until Wednesday morning. Alternative routes and recommendations for drivers

Traffic on the Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge is closed, on Tuesday, from 09:00 to 21:00 for all categories of vehicles. Later, until Wednesday morning, restrictions will be imposed. Drivers are advised to choose alternative routes.

“The Territorial Inspectorate of the Giurgiu Border Police informs that, following a notification sent by the Bulgarian border authorities, through the Giurgiu Joint Contact Center, on 04.11.2025, traffic on the Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge will be temporarily suspended for construction works”, announces the Border Police.

The construction and installation works are planned starting from 04.11.2025, at 09:00, until 05.11.2025, at 09:00.

As a result of these works, the following traffic restrictions are established on the Friendship Bridge, as follows:

  • In the period 04.11.2025, 09:00-04.11.2025, 21:00, traffic will be stopped for all types of vehicles.
  • In the period 04.11.2025, 21:00-05.11.2025, 09:00, only vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tons, as well as vehicles transporting people, will be allowed to travel.
  • Starting from 05.11.2025, at 09:00, traffic will be resumed for all categories of vehicles.

“The measure is necessary to avoid the production of vibrations during the process of concreting and stabilizing the load-bearing panels”, the cited source also transmitted.

To prevent congestion or delays, drivers and transport companies are advised to plan their routes effectively and consider the following alternative routes:

  • Dolj: Caulk, Bechet
  • Teleorman: Zimnicea, Turnu Măgurele
  • Horsemen: Horsemen
  • Constanta: Vama Veche, Ostrov, Negru Vodă, Lipniţa, Dobromir

“MAE recommends Romanian citizens who intend to cross the Giurgiu – Ruse Friendship Bridge to take into account the mentioned periods when road traffic will be stopped for crossing the bridge and to use the other border crossing points between Romania and the Republic of Bulgaria, as follows: Vidin – Calafat, Kardam – Negru Vodă, Silistra – Ostrov Calarasi, Dobromir – Krushari and Kainardzha – Lipniţa, Nikopol – Turnu Măgurele (ferry) (www.feribot-eurobac.ro), Svishtov – Zimnicea (ferry) (www.ferry.bg), Oryahovo – Bechet (ferry) (www.ferryboat.bg) and Aydemir (Silistra) – Chiciu (Călăraşi) (ferry) (www.spikaferry.com)the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent.

Romanian citizens can request consular assistance at the telephone numbers of the Embassy of Romania in Sofia: +35929712858 and +35929733510, calls being forwarded to the Contact and Support Center for Romanian Citizens Abroad (CCSCRS) and answered by Call Center operators on a permanent basis.
