An auto parts factory closes. About 1,000 people will lose their jobs: “Production is moving outside the EU”

The Aptiv auto parts factory, the most important employer in the city of Ineu, Arad county, is to stop its activity starting in December. According to local authorities, production would be relocated to a country outside the European Union, and hundreds of employees would be affected.

The mayor of the city, Călin Abrudan, claims that the closure of the factory comes after a period in which the activity was constantly reduced, and the operating costs became too high.
“Unfortunately, the production at Ineu would have to move outside the European Union. I understood that it is no longer profitable to keep the hall with the number of employees who are still there, because a very high rent is paid. Aptiv was the largest employer in the Ineu area, in the last year it had between 800 and 1,000 employees. I understand that a small part will remain for a few months, for the dismantling and moving of the machines”. declared the mayor of Abrudan, for Agerpres.
The mayor says that the local budget will feel the effects of this departure, but the town hall is already trying to attract other investors.
“As the largest employer, it was also the largest contributor to the local budget. We hope, however, to compensate for this loss by the arrival of new investors, and we have advanced discussions in this regard. Moreover, it is already certain that an investor will create 500 jobs in about a year, by opening a electronic component factories“, Calin Abrudan added.
The mayor also says that discussions have been held with the competent institutions to help the laid-off workers be reintegrated in other units in the area.
For his part, Alexandru Molnar, the director of the Arad County Employment Agency (AJOFM), says that the institution has been informed about the situation, but has not yet received an official notification regarding the collective layoffs.
The representatives of the Aptiv factory have not yet offered an official point of view.
