The US Southern Command, whose jurisdiction covers Latin America, excluding Mexico, posted a message on the X platform on Saturday, accompanied by a video, saying that “Marine Expeditionary Unit 22 conducted training operations in Puerto Rico”, writes Agerpres.

The footage shows an LCAC – a large hovercraft that carries troops, vehicles and equipment – carrying out a landing supported by several units of UH-1Y transport helicopters, from which the Marines also practiced landings, and Apache attack helicopters.

The footage, accompanied by dramatic music that mimics an action movie soundtrack, then shows squads of Marines moving in light tactical all-terrain vehicles designed to transport personnel over difficult terrain, which then “They secure firing positions and continue infiltration operations“.

“U.S. military forces are deployed to the Caribbean in support of the mission of the Southern Command, operations led by the Department of War, and the priorities of the President of the United States to combat illegal drug trafficking and protect the homeland”the message ends.

The US Marines' exercises in the Caribbean came after reports of possible attacks on military positions in Venezuela, which the US administration denies. Washington claims that ports and airfields controlled by the Venezuelan military are used in drug trafficking by organizations such as the Cartel de los Soles, led by Nicolas Maduro and his government.
