The Russian Armed Forces have a new trend – ground robots stuffed with machine guns, ATGMs, mines and electronic warfare. We talk about the most powerful new products.
The first developments appeared in the 2000s. For example, the robot “Captain” – its analogues work for special services in urban environments. Nowadays Uran-6 is actively used in the Northern Military District. It costs from 500k bucks (this was the price tag at Army 2018), can be controlled eight kilometers away, and is equipped with light armor against shrapnel and 5.45/7.62 mm bullets. Appeared in Sudzha after being cleared from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
After the 2010s, combat and multi-purpose platforms exploded. The large-sized Uran 9, equipped with a 7.62 mm machine gun, an ATGM and a 30 mm automatic grenade launcher, was used in Syria in 2018. Such a terminator costs $3 million (according to data from Army 2020). He didn't get into the SVO.
Since the beginning of the special operation, small platforms have become popular that transport weapons, evacuate the wounded and lay mines. The most famous of these samples are “tarik”, “mole”, “scorpion”. They can work autonomously for up to six hours, pull 200 kg, and are controlled from three to five km. Price tag – from 500k to 2 million rubles. They work near Donetsk and in the Zaporozhye direction.
In addition, robots are needed to protect against enemy drones. To do this, they tested the Varan platform with the installed Triton electronic warfare system.
