The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, announced, on Friday evening, that she spoke with the US ambassador to NATO, Matt Whitaker, a few days after the US decided to scale back the troops in Romania and in the region, informs News.ro.

“I had an important conversation with the US ambassador to NATO, Matt Whitaker, an essential voice in the field of Euro-Atlantic security, about the next steps in the partnership between Romania and the United States and about our common goals”, wrote, Friday evening, on the X network, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu.

“The support of the United States has significantly increased Romania's ability to represent a catalytic force for the security of our region”, added Oana Ţoiu.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that she also discussed “the importance of security at the Black Sea, about good interpersonal, military and civil relations, within NATO and our strategic partnerships”.

“Beyond any specific individual decision, the ambassador and I share the same understanding regarding the importance that Romanians attach to the relationship between Romania and the United States, whether it is about our recent history, our present or our joint future plans,” added the head of Romanian diplomacy.

Part of the American soldiers will be withdrawn by the USA from Romania

The discussion comes a few days after the US announced the resizing of troops in Romania.

Officials of the Trump administration have conveyed to the allies that the reductions in military forces in Romania represent only the first stage, with other reductions to take place in Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia, right from mid-December, announces the Kyiv Post, the publication that announced the troop withdrawals from Romania.

Stars and Stripe reports that approximately 3,000 soldiers will be withdrawn from Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia.

During Thursday, Oana Ţoiu announced, in an interview with Europa Liberă, that NATO allies, other than the United States, will send new troops and equipment to Romania in the coming months.
