Hacker attack on New Ithaca. Customer data of the largest travel agency was leaked


The attack was also reported by the Minister of Digitization and Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski on the X website. As he emphasized, specialists from the Scientific and Academic Computer Network (NASK) are in constant contact with the company, and the services have started operational activities aimed at identifying the perpetrators.

How to check if your data has been leaked
Minister Gawkowski announced that travel agency customers will soon be able to check whether their data has been breached. For this purpose, a dedicated functionality will be created on the websitebezpieczdane.gov.pl.
The Minister of Digitization reminded us what steps should be taken if our data is stolen. Anyone who may have been the victim of an attack should:
- Immediately change your password on all websites where she used the same login details.
- Enable two-factor login to increase account security.
- Consider using a password manager.
- Regularly monitor your bank account and e-mail.
It is also worth keeping your PESEL number as an additional security measure.
Ithaca about the attack
In an official statement, Nowa Itaka sp. z o. o. admitted that fell victim to a hacker attack, as a result of which unauthorized persons gained access to some of the personal data of customers registered in the Customer Zone.
According to the information provided, the leak included data such as: name and surname, e-mail address and telephone number. At the same time, the travel agency assured that reservation information, financial data, trip participants' data and account passwords remained safe and had not been breached.
“The security of our customers' personal data is our highest priority,” the announcement emphasized. In response to the incident, the company took immediate action, including closing access to the Customer Area and intensive work aimed at clarifying the details of the incident, identifying the source of the problem and minimizing its effects.
The company also informed that the relevant institutions, including CSIRT NASK, had been notified about the situation. Notifications to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office and the Prosecutor's Office are also being prepared.
The largest travel agencies in Poland
Itaka, TUI Poland, Rainbow and Coral Travel are the four largest travel agencies in Poland – according to the ranking prepared by the Traveldata Tourism Market Research Institute for the “Rzeczpospolita” daily.
According to data, at the end of 2024, there were 5,063 travel agencies operating in Poland. As noted, they include both large companies generating multi-hundred-million-dollar turnovers and smaller entities that focus mainly on organizing school trips.
Last year, the revenues of the surveyed group of tour operators reached PLN 21.11 billion, which means an increase of 24.6%. compared to the previous year.
