US President Donald Trump has set the refugee admissions cap for fiscal year 2026 at a record low of 7,500. people – according to a document published by the White House on Thursday. According to AP, priority will be given to Afrikaners from South Africa.

The document stated that the adoption of 7.5 thousand refugees is “justified on humanitarian grounds or in the national interest”.
The previous limit, set by former President Joe Biden, was 125,000. people per year – Reuters reported. The fiscal year in the US runs from the beginning of October to the end of September.
After returning to the White House in January, Trump halted refugee admissions and said the process would resume when it was in the U.S. national interest.
He later issued a decree stating that priority should be given to refugees from the Afrikaner minority in South Africa. As he argued, this white community is a victim of discrimination in the majority-black South Africa. The South African government rejected these claims.
