Seriously ill residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory will be able to receive therapeutic nutrition at home

Palliative patients with cancer and other serious diseases in the Krasnoyarsk Territory can now receive special therapeutic nutrition free of charge not only in hospitals, but also during outpatient treatment.

As Yuri Burgart, the chief specialist of the regional Ministry of Health for palliative care, explained, for cancer patients the problem of unintentional weight loss (cachexia) is especially relevant. Lack of nutrients weakens the body, reducing the effectiveness of treatment.

To prevent this, patients need special nutritional mixtures—sipings—that meet the norm of calories, protein, fats and carbohydrates. A therapist at the place of residence can prescribe nutritional therapy based on the recommendation of a specialist or independently if the patient has a palliative status and is rapidly losing weight.

Previously, special nutritional mixtures were provided only in hospitals of medical institutions.
