The team where the Romanian international Dennis Man (27 years old), PSV Eindhoven, plays, has taken an important step towards the future. The Dutch club and the municipality of Eindhoven signed a memorandum of understanding on the expansion of the Philips Stadium on Friday evening, just before the Eredivisie match with Fortuna Sittard.
The document is the starting point for the design phase of a modernized stadium, which will receive at least ten thousand additional seats. The exact number is to be determined after safety, sustainability and mobility studies are completed. In its current form, the stadium has a capacity of 35,000 seats.
“Demand for Eindhoven matches has exploded in recent years”
Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem (59) emphasized that the development of the stadium reflects the evolution of the city:
“Eindhoven is growing and the demand for tickets to PSV matches has exploded in recent years. The waiting list says it all. I'm sure many fans will be happy to finally find a seat at the stadium.”
The general manager of the club, Marcel Brands (63 years old), added:
“The fact that the city is supporting us in this project gives us confidence. It is an important step not only for the club, but for the whole community. We will work closely with local residents throughout the process.”
The stadium, “more than an investment”
Local councilor Stijn Steenbakkers (38) described the project as “an investment in the soul of Eindhoven”:
“PSV and the Philips Stadium are the heart of the city. The fact that the stadium will grow here on the historic ground on Frederiklaan is more than an investment in football. It is an investment in our identity.”
The expansion of the stadium, which would start in 2027, will most likely take place on the northern (PSV-laan) and eastern (Vonderweg) sides, but all options will be considered. The club intends to continue playing in its own arena during the works.

Transferred in the summer of this year, Dennis Man is going through an excellent period at PSV. Quoted at 10 million euros according to the specialized website Transfermarkt, the Romanian international managed 3 goals and 2 decisive assists in 9 matches of the current season.
