The University of Craiova had serious emotions in its debut in the Romanian Cup groups, being led at halftime by the 3rd League team, Sănătatea Cluj, but the Oltenians came back spectacularly and won 4-1, against “Ion Oblemenco”.
The unique moment of the evening was provided by Cluj: the patron and president of the club, Aurelian Ghisa, entered the field at the age of 61.
After the match, the coach of Cluj Health, Vasile Miriuță (57 years old), spoke honestly about the match and congratulated his students for their attitude on the field.
Vasile Miriuță congratulated his students: “I am satisfied with the boys”
“I want to congratulate my boys! 70-75 minutes we played a very good game. It's normal to fall physically, we are a League 3 team. Craiova made some top changes, they have an extraordinary bench.
Of course we would have liked an equal, but their individual value was seen. They clearly dominated us in the last 20 minutes. I also made a few mistakes, but I'm happy with the boys”, declared Miriuță.
The Cluj technician also spoke about the special moment when he introduced the team's boss-president, Aurelian Ghisa:
“I promised him (No. Aurelian Ghisa) that I would put him on the field. It's worth it for the effort he makes to keep this team. The idea was mine, I told him all week to prepare, that he has to play on «Oblemenco». And for the boys it was a huge joy. Tonight they felt like footballers”.
“It was an extraordinary atmosphere, a beautiful audience. My boys enjoyed every moment. If I could have made 10 changes, I would have made them, just so that the others could also feel what it means to play here, where Craiova's great glories evolved.”
The former coach from CFR and Dinamo admitted that promotion to the higher echelons is a difficult dream for Cluj Health
“It is very difficult to reach League 1. Financially, it is complicated. If someone strong came next to the boss, maybe we would manage to climb to the 2nd League. But I think that the city of Cluj deserves a team in “B” as well, in addition to CFR and the University, to be able to grow players”.
The technician also commented on the situation in the Super League:
“Now, Craiova and Rapid seem to me to be the best placed teams in League 1. Dinamo is also there, but it still lacks something. FCSB and CFR have very good players, but they are going through a difficult period. When you enter such a slump, it is difficult to get out. I don't know exactly what problems they have, but they can recover”.
Miriuță had a message for Mirel Rădoi: “I hope he stays, he is an extraordinary boy!”
The Transylvanian technician had a message of encouragement for Craiova's current coach, Mirel Rădoi:
“I love Craiova from the time of Balaci, Cârțu, Ștefănescu, Lung. I hope Rădoi stays, he is an extraordinary boy and coach! I congratulated him and said: “Groom, keep it up, as you have been as a player!“.
He deserves to succeed here, at home, in Oltenia. Football needs people with principles and character, and he is one of them“.
