The American forces at the military bases in Deveselu and Câmpia Turzii will remain unchanged, the only change being at the Mihail Kogălniceanu base, where “the rotation of a brigade will be stopped”, Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu said on Wednesday. He said he learned on Monday about the US decision to withdraw part of the military from Romania.

Moșteanu said that “around 900-1000 American soldiers will remain in Romania, a little above the level before the start of the war in Ukraine”.

Now, there are approximately 2,000 United States soldiers in Romania, of which approximately 1,700 are at Mihail Kogălniceanu Base. At Deveselu, where the Aegis Ashore anti-missile shield is operating, there are now approximately 200 American soldiers and over 100 at Turzii Plain, according to HotNews information.

Where exactly will the approximately 1,000 American soldiers stay in Romania?

“The effective teams from Deveselu and Câmpia Turzii remain unchanged. The only change is at Mihail Kogălniceanu, with the rotation. The 1000 soldiers remain at Câmpia Turzii, at Deveselu and Mihail Kogălniceanu.

I wish it wasn't like that, but the shirt is always closer to the body than the coat, and each country sets its own strategy. It's a predictable thing I was expecting. That's why I say that we have to invest in the Romanian Army”, replied Moșteanu, without giving exact figures.

Answering another question, Moșteanu said that he was informed about the US decision on Monday, but that he did not make it public because “there was supposed to be a coordination” with the United States, but in the meantime the information was found out by sources and reported by the Ukrainian press.
