Compensation from the Boards of Directors (CA) and Supervisory Boards (SC) of public entities in Romania, for the first 65 state institutions, starts from 14,000 euros gross monthly for each member of the CA and does not go below 2,000 euros, according to official databases consulted by HotNews and reported in August 2025.

Uzina Mecanică Mija is in 65th place in the ranking of the amount of CA allowances, with 9,800 lei. In first place is the Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration ROMATSA, with 70,275 gross monthly for each member of the CA.

They are only the base amounts, to which other bonuses can be added

The data you can find here for 143 state institutions requires the following clarifications:

  1. The first chart contains directors' compensation.
  2. The second graph contains the allowances of members of the CA and CS.
  3. On the third graph you can search for each institution, displaying the names of the directors and people from the CA or CS.
  4. Amounts in all charts are gross (taxable) and updated to August 2025.
  5. All amounts for both directors and board members are a starting point only. That means there may be other extras that add to the income. The pluses are increasingly offered by each company depending on internal rules or employment contracts.
  6. Pluses can also be added for other increments, which do not depend on the company, but on legislation: such as increments for doctorates or seniority.

Director of the Aeronautical Authority has a base of 55,000 per month and earns 110,000 per month

An example: The Director of the Aeronautical Authority appears with 55,000 lei, an amount that represents the gross base.

The institution also reported the variable component of the salary, which raises its income to 110,000 gross lei per month. In the other cases in the tables, the variable component, which may contain, for example, annual management bonuses, was not reported or aggregated.

The data for the 143 state institutions was collected by HotNews from the public database of the Agency for Monitoring and Evaluation of the Performance of Public Enterprises (AMEPIP).

Loteria Română pays better in CA than Nuclearelectrica

The data show that there are state entities, such as the Romanian Auto Registry, which pay their people from the Board of Directors like companies with state participation, from highly competitive industries, for example Antibiotice Iași. RAR and Antibiotice each give approximately 30,000 lei per month to a CA member.

Also regarding allowances offered to members of the Board of Directors, Loteria Română pays 19,300 lei per month to each of the 5 members of the Board of Directors, better than Nuclearelectrica, which offers 17,900 lei to the 7 members of the Board of Directors.

Half of the directors of 125 budgetary institutions earn more than 6,500 euros gross per month

For CEOs, the top of gross compensation, which does not include other increments or bonuses, is dominated by energy. 6 out of 10 companies that pay their executives the best are from this field.

The first four are: Romgaz 85,000 lei monthly, Depogaz 85,000 lei, Transgaz 80,000 lei and Electrocentrale Bucharest (Elcen) 72,000 lei.

The median basic gross income of directors is 33,989 per month, which means that half of the directors of 125 entities that reported their leaders' income and are registered under AMEPIP earn more than 6,500 euros gross per month.
