The announcement takes place just a few days before a scheduled meeting between the Chinese and American presidents, reports Reuters, quoted by News.ro.
The national television did not communicate any precise date, publishing this information through its account on the Weibo social network dedicated to military activities.
“Several J-10 fighters flew in formation into a designated target airspace, and several H-6K bombers headed toward waters and airspace around Taiwan to conduct simulated exercises of confrontation“, it is written, without further details.
The H-6K is capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
Xi Jinping – Donald Trup meeting this week
Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump are expected to meet this week in South Korea, on the sidelines of a regional summit. Chinese and American leaders should discuss in particular the trade war between the two countries.
Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, said that Taiwan should not be worried about the meeting between the two presidents.
Considered by China to be a renegade province, which it does not rule out taking back by force, Taiwan has benefited from important unofficial support from the United States for decades. Washington has no formal diplomatic relations with Taipei, but is its main arms supplier.
