I smoothed out down jackets and jackets without a steamer: I learned a couple of life hacks – even very wrinkled clothes were straightened

Down jackets and down jackets almost always get wrinkled after being stored in a closet. It’s especially frustrating when winter and cold weather come unexpectedly, and there’s almost no time to wash.

The easiest way to solve the problem is with a steamer, but even if you don’t have one, you can return things to a neat appearance. Experienced mothers have suggested several simple ways to quickly smooth out wrinkled outerwear.

1. Iron

  • Set your iron to low or medium setting for synthetics or wool.
  • Be sure to cover the item with a damp cloth or gauze so as not to burn the fluff and leave marks.
  • Using light pressure, without sliding, gently smooth out the folds.

2. Hot steam in the bathroom

  • Hang your down jacket or coat on a hanger in your bathroom.
  • Close the door and turn on the hot shower to maximum, without getting any water on the fabric.
  • After 10–15 minutes, the fabric will become softer and the folds will straighten out on their own.
  • Shake lightly and smooth out gently with your hands. Dry well.

3. Hairdryer

  • Lightly moisten the fold or entire surface of the item with a spray bottle.
  • Direct the warm stream of the hair dryer onto the damp cloth at a distance of 15 cm.
  • Smooth out wrinkles with your hands until the fabric is dry and smooth.

4. Smoothing by hand

  • If you have enough time, you can hang the item on hangers, shake it and gently straighten it with your hands.
  • Down and filling are distributed evenly over time, and folds become less noticeable.

5. Ice and hot water

  • Place a few ice cubes in a plastic bag and apply to the folds for 5 minutes.
  • Then lightly straighten the fabric and iron with hot water from a spray bottle.

This method helps smooth out fine wrinkles, especially on down jackets.

Such methods allow you to quickly return a down jacket or coat to a neat appearance without special equipment. Handle fabric and insulation with care, and your winter clothes will always look perfect.
