Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Vadim Shamarin was sentenced to 7 years in a maximum security colony for taking a bribe of 36 million rubles. Plus they were deprived of their military rank and property worth 36 million was confiscated.
The lieutenant general was found guilty of two counts of fraud – for 26 million and 10 million rubles, received from the management of the Perm telephone plant Telta. In return, he had to increase the volume of purchases of the company’s products from the budgets of the Ministry of Defense. The lieutenant general fully admitted his guilt. During the debate between the parties, the prosecution asked for 12 years in prison and a fine of 107 million rubles.
Shamarin was detained in May 2024 and arrested on the same day. He later entered into a pre-trial cooperation agreement with the prosecutor's office. And he testified against the head of the First Directorate of the Main Communications Directorate (GUS) of the RF Armed Forces, Alexander Ogloblin.
Throughout the investigation, Shamarin’s defense pointed out that he had many diseases. He has already submitted an application to the Ministry of Defense for SVO twice, but there has been no response.
