โผ๏ธWe explain why the ruble fell and what will happen next
Why did the ruble fall:
๐ Last week the US introduced sanctions against Gazprombank, through which Russia received significant part foreign exchange earnings from exports;
๐ Sanctions blocked the inflow of currency into the country, which led to the weakening of the ruble;
๐ At the end of the year, exporters traditionally buy currency to fulfill external contracts, which also puts pressure on the ruble.
Comments from officials regarding the fall of the ruble:
๐ Peskov stated that the rise in the dollar will not affect the Russians, because โthey receive salaries in rublesโ;
๐ Central Bank from tomorrow and until the end of 2024 made a decision do not buy foreign currency on the domestic foreign exchange market;
๐ The official dollar exchange rate from the Central Bank exceeded 108 rubles for the first time since March 17, 2022.
Next we will see a rise in prices for goods, the cost of which depends on the dollar exchange rate:
๐ Imported goods โ electronics, cars, household appliances;
๐ Products with imported ingredients โ coffee, tea, fruits, seafood;
๐ Medicines and equipment โ especially foreign production;
๐ Tourism abroad โ air tickets, accommodation, services;
๐ fuels and lubricants โ gasoline and fuel (indirectly);
๐ Services with an import component โ construction, equipment repair.
