The mayor of Nowy Sącz detained by the CBA. “The inspection result was without any comments”


“The Central Anticorruption Bureau detained the president and vice-president of Nowy Sącz,” reports Radio Eska. Indicates that the case is related to suspected irregularities in a tender financed from EU funds.
This information was confirmed by the press spokesman of the Minister Coordinator of Special Services, Jacek Dobrzyński.
“According to unofficial information from Radio Eska, the case concerns an investigation conducted by the CBA under the supervision of the European Prosecutor's Office. Officers are investigating whether officials exceeded their powers during one of the tenders. This concerns the suspicion of disclosing important information to one of the bidders, which could have influenced the outcome of the proceedings,” we read.

The suspicious tender concerned the organization of training for students and teachers. Estimated losses due to irregularities may reach up to PLN 600,000. euro. Radio Eska reminds that in connection with this case, the CBA had previously seized documentation and computers from the Nowy Sącz office, and last Tuesday, in connection with the same investigation, four other officials were detained.

The mayor of Nowy Sącz, Ludomir Handzel, commented on the matter on social media on Tuesday. “I would like to inform you that today four employees from municipal institutions were transported by CBA agents to Katowice. We do not know for what purpose. After the last visit of the CBA, the documentation of the tender related to this visit was analyzed – the tender was also inspected in the past by the Marshal's Office. The inspection result was without any comments“- he wrote on Facebook.
“Until now, I thought that at 6 a.m. they were going to kill dangerous criminals, not ordinary officials. I feel sorry for the families because of the methods used,” he added in his entry.
