After the departure of Ioan Ovidiu Sabău, the Cluj University management negotiated with several technicians, including Dorinel Munteanu, Adrian Mutu and Cristiano Bergodi.
The team from Cluj chose Bergodi, the Italian who has coached several teams in Romanian football over time, including Sepsi, Craiova University, FCSB and CFR Cluj.
Bergodi managed to win the Romanian Cup twice, with Sepsi Sf. Gheorghe, and he also won two Supercups: one with Sepsi and one with Rapid in the 2006-2007 season.
The new coach from Cluj University signed a contract valid until the summer of 2027. He comes to the team with two collaborators, second coach Luigi Ciarlantini and goalkeeper coach Eugen Catalin Anghel, according to iAMsport.ro.
Bergodi's other collaborators will be second coach Eugeniu Cebotaru and physical trainer Flavius Nistor, who were also in Ioan Ovidiu Sabău's technical staff.
The University of Cluj returned this summer to the European cups after an absence of 53 years, but the developments in the new season were disappointing.
