“I always felt that he wanted everything [всю Украину]and not just part. But now, I think he is ready to give in a little and negotiate. Perhaps he is ready for an agreement – we'll see. We don't want him to have everything,” Trump said.
However, before that, “given Putin's refusal to stop this senseless war,” The US Treasury Department announced new sanctions against the two largest Russian oil companies (Rosneft and Lukoil). Trump at a press conference expressed the hope that this would push the illegitimate president of the aggressor country to negotiate.
“I hope Putin will become reasonable, and I hope [президент Украины Владимир] Zelensky will also be prudent,” Trump said.
He recalled that “it takes two to tango,” but the hatred between Putin and Zelensky is strong.
“These two people hate each other. You know this better than anyone, and this complicates things more than it should. In fact, it should have been easier, but the level of hatred between Zelensky and Putin is very high,” the American leader emphasized.
The head of the White House also said that he had postponed the meeting planned with Putin in Budapest.
