Bogdan Ivan was asked, on Wednesday, in a press conference, how the Government intends to reduce the fiscal burden in the conditions in which Romanians pay the highest prices for electricity in relation to income and in the conditions in which the price of energy in Romania represents 52% of the final price, and the rest is taxes.

“It is a reality that we all see. At the moment, the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece are widowed by the common energy market in the context where investments in interconnection between Austria and Hungary and Austria and Slovakia have not been made in the last ten years, and today Romanians pay, relative to purchasing power and income, the most expensive energy from all over the European Union. To overcome this element, the only solution in the medium and long term is new production capacities to cover the deficit that we are importing today and to lower the production costs as much as possible, let's talk about other rules when we talk about how those price spikes and peaks are formed at certain time intervals”said Bogdan Ivan.

He added that the memorandum with the situation of the energy ecosystem must reach the CSAT meeting.

“And at the same time let's reach that memorandum with the actual situation of the national energy ecosystem in CSAT and I have the guarantee that in the next meeting we will have that memorandum which, after that, will draw very clear tasks to the relevant ministries, as well as to the Energy Regulatory Agency to propose draft laws updated to the best practices in Western countries by which to decrease, for example, the inclusive price during the balancing period, which today approximately 22% of active electricity costs almost 50% of the total cost of electricity in Romania”stated the Minister of Energy.

Bogdan Ivan emphasized that there is a strategy to reduce the price per kWh.

“Only 52% of the price paid by people is active electricity, the rest we are talking about taxes, tariffs, transport, distribution, supply, green certificates and so on. We have this very clear strategy to reduce the price from 1.55 lei, which was, on average, on the first day of my mandate, when I arrived at the Ministry of Energy, to bring it as close as possible to the figure of 1 lei. And today we already have 4 suppliers who have optimized the activity and managed to decrease and have offers below 1.30 lei per kWh for domestic consumers”Bogdan Ivan also affirmed.
