One simple trick and the smell from shoes disappears overnight: proven over the years

Many people experience an unpleasant odor in their shoes, especially after an active day, rain or during the warm season. Even regular washing of insoles does not always help, because the source is bacteria that multiply in a damp environment inside boots or sneakers.

You can cope with this without expensive sprays and carbon liners. All you need are two simple ingredients that are found in almost every kitchen.

Here's how it's done:

  • Take a small piece of cotton cloth or a paper bag.
  • Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of baking soda and ½ teaspoon of corn or potato starch inside.
  • Tie a bag or fold an envelope and place one in each shoe at night.

Baking soda neutralizes odor on a chemical level, and starch absorbs moisture, depriving bacteria of a breeding ground. Already in the morning the shoes will be dry and fresh, without a chemical aroma.

The bags can be used for 2-3 days in a row and then replaced. For prevention, it is enough to lay them once a week.

Question and answer:

How long does it take for the smell in shoes to disappear?
Usually one night is enough. If the odor is strong, it is recommended to repeat the procedure 2-3 days in a row.

Is it possible to leave baking soda in shoes for a long time?
It is better not longer than 2-3 days. After this, the soda stops absorbing moisture and may leave a white residue on the fabric or skin.
