New SiberiaDOC awards – “Branches” – unique visual and tactile figurines made of wood, created by Krasnoyarsk artist and wood craftsman Boris Poreba. The prize is made from branches of old poplars found in Siberian forests. And the word “branches” itself in the Ket language means boats – it is with this image that the form of the award echoes. (Kets are a small indigenous people of Yenisei Siberia, most of whom live in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.) Thus, by presenting “Branches,” the festival emphasizes its connection with the traditions and nature of Siberia.

“The material of the figurine is dry branches of a poplar tree that grew on an island in the center of the river,” said award designer Boris Potreba. “The figurine itself has become a reflection and symbol of the festival, where the values of truth and authenticity, the natural course of things, the flow of events and the author’s view of documentary cinema are cultivated. This is movement along the river of life, facing the sky. The vertical position of the figurine resembles a flame; fire is a symbol of human development, the soul’s aspiration to the stars.”

Let us remind you that in the summer of 2025 the festival team announced a competition to develop a new award design. The winner was Ekaterina Burakova with a project called “Eidos”. Her work impressed the jury with its depth and originality. During the discussions, the idea arose to develop Catherine's concept and use wood as the main material for the award. They turned to Boris Potreba for modifications, preserving elements of the original plan. Ekaterina also participated in the final development of the project, which allowed us to combine creative approaches and create a unique symbol of the festival.

“The festival is developing and growing. Like any other decent film festival, we now have our own unique prize, a statuette! This is the result not only of the competition, but also of the collaboration of artists and designers. It is important for our team that in this prize we reflect the identity of our region, find something of our own, and I am very glad that the warmth and sincerity of this prize is combined with the qualities that we look for in films,” said festival president Nikolai Bem.

The new prize, created in triplicate, will be awarded to the winners of the competition programs at the Closing Ceremony on December 6:

  • Grand Prix for the best film of the International Feature Film Competition;
  • Best Film of the Short and Medium Film Competition;
  • Best film of the Russian Film Competition;
  • Audience Jury Prize.
