Even though he only finished fifth in the United States Grand PrixOscar Piastri (24) continues to lead the overall Formula 1 standings ahead of the final five rounds of the 2025 season. At the end of the race, the McLaren driver analyzed the battle for the world title.

However, the McLaren driver emphasized that, in his opinion, his lead over Verstappen is quite large, given that there are only five stages to the end of the championship.

“I'm not doing the calculations at the moment. My qualifying was so-so, I just didn't have the speed, in the race it was the same. This track is very interesting, it has a lot of fast corners, but also quite a lot of slow corners, so you need a car that can perform well at both ends. Actually, there are not many medium-speed corners, there are a few, but most of them are outside this window.

This has never been a goal in my entire career in Formula 1. So I can't say I'm very shocked. The weekend was difficult, but obviously we were hoping for more. Max has had a good run in the last few races but if I can get my pace back then I won't have too much to worry about.
