Even though he only finished fifth in the United States Grand PrixOscar Piastri (24) continues to lead the overall Formula 1 standings ahead of the final five rounds of the 2025 season. At the end of the race, the McLaren driver analyzed the battle for the world title.

The Aussie's lead over team-mate Lando Norris is 14 points, while Max Verstappen is 40 points clear of the top spot.

Certainly, however, the Dutchman seems at the moment to be the most serious claimant to the world title, after only in the last four stages he recovered 64 points from the gap with Piastri.

Oscar Piastri, on the fight for the world title: “I have nothing to worry about”

That certainly gives the Aussie cause for concern, who admitted after his fifth-place finish in Austin that he wasn't surprised by his relatively lackluster weekend at the 'Circuit of the Americas'.

However, the McLaren driver emphasized that, in his opinion, his lead over Verstappen is quite large, given that there are only five stages to the end of the championship.

“I'm not doing the calculations at the moment. My qualifying was so-so, I just didn't have the speed, in the race it was the same. This track is very interesting, it has a lot of fast corners, but also quite a lot of slow corners, so you need a car that can perform well at both ends. Actually, there are not many medium-speed corners, there are a few, but most of them are outside this window.

Ranked only 5th in the US MP, Oscar Piastri analyzed the world title fight:

This has never been a goal in my entire career in Formula 1. So I can't say I'm very shocked. The weekend was difficult, but obviously we were hoping for more. Max has had a good run in the last few races but if I can get my pace back then I won't have too much to worry about.

There is still a lot of time until the end of the championship. Max managed to catch up to us quite quickly, but the gap is quite big with five stages left. So if we can find our rhythm, things will settle down“, Piastri declared at the end of the race, according to sportal.bg.

Overall driver standings:

  1. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – 346 points
