Italy, the champion of the last two editions, does not have him on the initial list of players called up for the Davis Cup Final 8 on Jannik Sinner (24 years old, 2 ATP). Carlos Alcaraz (22 years old, 1 ATP) and Alexander Zverev (28 years old, 3 ATPs) will play for Spain and Germany, respectively, in Bologna, between November 18 and 23.
Jannik Sinner is not on the initial list of players called up for the Davis Cup Final 8 in Bologna. Captain Filippo Volandri relies on Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
The world number 2, who is currently competing in the tournament in Vienna, was not included in the initial list and will not change his mind, although changes can be made up to a week before the start of the competition. “I won the Davis Cup twice. My team and I made this decision because the season is too long. I need an extra week off to start training earlier. The objective is to be fit again in Australia. In the last two years, I have not been in the best shape due to lack of time, so I made this decision.” said Jannik Sinner, who won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024.
The Italian number one will be Lorenzo Musetti. “Jannik Sinner has declared himself unavailable for 2025. Davis Cup is and will always be his home and I'm sure Jannik will be back in the team soon. In the meantime, I can count on a group that is ready to fight and give everything for the blue jersey. It will be a thrilling adventure again in Bologna. I know the value of these boys and I am sure that the future will bring us great satisfaction.” emphasized Volandri, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Disappointed with the choice of Jannik Sinner
The president of the Italian Tennis Federation, Angelo Binaghi, said: “We understand and respect Jannik's decision, which is nevertheless very painful for us, coming at the end of a long and intense season in which he once again proved to be an extraordinary figure for the entire Italian tennis movement. The Davis Cup is for him, and for all of us, a symbol of pride and belonging, and we are confident that he will soon return to wear the blue jersey with the same passion and determination as ever.”
In addition to Italy, France, Belgium, Austria, Spain, the Czech Republic, Argentina and Germany are qualified for the Davis Cup Final on May 8. Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev are on the list of players who will participate in Bologna.
