Inter imposed itself at the limit on the land of those from AS Romascore 1-0, in the most anticipated duel of the round with number #7 in Serie A. Thus, Cristi Chivu's team ticked the 6th consecutive success in all competitions and climbed to the first step of the podium in Italy!
The complete program of stage #7 in Serie A
The Italian and European vice-champion had an excellent start to the match at the Olimpico. After only six minutes from the starting whistle of central Davide Massa, Cristi Chivu's students managed to unlock the scoreboard, through Ange-Yoan Bonny.
Inter scored, after which Chivu shouted “withdrawal”
Following a counter-attack well managed by the Nerazzurra, Nicolo Barella set up the French striker superbly, who beat Svilar with a shot into the short corner from inside the box. The hosts accused the former Parma striker of an offside position, but the referees in the VAR room did not confirm this hypothesis.

After scoring the goal, the Milanese closed the game. Roma had possession and tried to restore parity, but Chivu's defense withstood the onslaught of Gasperini's side. The home side's best chances came from Evan Ndicka and Bryan Cristante, both coming from Paulo Dybala's corner kicks.
Thus, the “nerazzurri” entered the cabins with a minimal advantage on the table, score 1-0.
Inter, put into the strings at the beginning of the second act
In the first minutes of the second half, Chivu's students had an important chance to double their advantage. As in the opening phase, the visitors' counter-attack unsettled the Roma defence, but this time it was Dumfries who were in position to finish and his shot was parried by Svilar.
There then followed a period of around 15-20 minutes in which the hosts rushed at Sommer's goal, missing some huge opportunities to get back on the scoreboard.
The Swiss goalkeeper made two excellent saves on Paulo Dybala's shots, but misfired on a cross sent by the same Argentinian, which allowed newcomer Dovbyk to head again towards Inter's empty goal, but the Ukrainian's execution was flawed.
The string of misses of the “Giallorossi” was completed by that of the Turkish Celik, who resumed in the side net from inside the box.
VIDEO SUMMARY. How Chivu got the victory at AS Roma's ground
The end of the match gave the spectators present at the Olimpico a game on the counter. Of course, their favorites were the ones who had the initiative, given the fact that the result was not in their favor. However, it was the visitors who created the greatest excitement through the veteran Mkhitaryan, whose shot from inside the box hit the bar of Svilar's goal.
So, the final score of the game remained set by Bonny in the opening game, and thus, Inter ticked off their third consecutive domestic success and their sixth in all competitions.
Following this result, the group from Giuseppe Meazza accumulated 15 points and took over the leader's seat of the Italian ranking for the moment. However, the Nerazzurri will drop to 2nd if local rivals Milan prevail at the San Siro against Fiorentina tomorrow.
On the other hand, the “Giallorossi” dropped to the last step of the podium in Italy. Although it has the same number of points as Inter and Napoli, Roma's goal difference is a deficit one.
In the next round of Serie A, Inter will face the champion Napoli, at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, while Roma will perform on the field of the newly promoted Sassuolo.
Until then, however, the protagonists of today's derby will perform in the European cups in the middle of next week. Cristi Chivu's team will go to Belgium, for the duel with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League, while Gasperini's students will receive the visit of Viktoria Plzen, in the Europa League.
