Agents discovered the hunting position Oct. 16 during a routine sweep ahead of Trump's arrival in Palm Beach, Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said.
The FBI is examining the find. In particular, the bureau collects evidence from the scene and uses the power of cell phone analytics, said its director Cash Patel.
A Fox News law enforcement source noted that the hunting position likely appeared at the airport “several months ago.”
Trump's residence, Mar-a-Lago, is located not far from Palm Beach.
The investigation began a few weeks after Ryan Routh was officially accused of attempting to assassinate Trump, Fox News emphasized. He was detained near the American President's golf club last year.
Context
On September 15, 2024, the Trump campaign announced that a shooting had occurred near his golf club in Florida. The politician himself was not injured. The US Secret Service noted that “the incident is related to the protection” of Trump. Routh, 58, of Hawaii, was later identified as a suspect.
On September 16, in an interview with Fox News, Trump said that Routh, the suspect in the attempt on his life, “believed the rhetoric” of then US President Joe Biden and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and “acted in accordance with it.”
This was the second attempt to assassinate Trump. Earlier, on July 13, during a politician’s speech at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, shots were fired, after which he was quickly removed from the stage by security officers. One of the bullets grazed Trump's ear. After that, his security was tightened.
