As Reuters recalled, there have also recently been reports that one of Prince Andrew's close business partners was, in the opinion of the British government, a Chinese spy.
In the statement, Prince Andrew noted that subsequent allegations against him interfered with the work of his older brother and the entire royal family. “I will no longer use the title or honors that have been bestowed upon me. Andrew, 65, is eighth in line to the British throne. Reuters noted that the prince was once seen as a handsome naval officer who fought in the Falklands War with Argentina in 1982. He had a reputation as a “playboy prince.”
Already in 2022, he was stripped of most of his titles and did not perform any duties of the royal family, which was a consequence of the disclosure of his connections with Epstein.
In August 2021, Virginia Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against Prince Andrew in a New York court, alleging that in 2001, when she was 17, she was sexually assaulted by him three times. Giuffre – then with her maiden name of Roberts – was one of a large group of girls who were lured by Epstein with promises of work and then offered to his influential friends. One of them was supposed to be Prince Andrew.
The younger brother of King Charles III has repeatedly denied Giuffre's allegations. In 2022, Prince Andrew reached an out-of-court settlement with her. In April 2025, Giuffre committed suicide in Australia.
Jeffrey Epstein was convicted in a Florida state court of sexually abusing underage women in 2008 and served 13 months in prison. In 2019, federal prosecutors charged him with trafficking minors for sexual exploitation. A month later he died in custody. According to the autopsy, the man committed suicide. His partner Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence for complicity.
