American President Donald Trump intends to build a triumphal arch on one of the access arteries in the capital Washington, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of US independence, which will be celebrated on July 4 next year, reports AFP on Thursday, taken over by Agerpres.

A model of the monument has been sitting on his desk for several days, but Trump did not publicly reveal his intentions until Wednesday night, during a gala dinner with donors who are financing the construction of a new ballroom at the White House.

The Arc de Triomphe would be located near the Lincoln Monument, at the opposite end of the Arlington Bridge, which is the gateway to Washington from Virginia.

“It's going to be really nice. I think it's going to be fantastic,” Trump said during the dinner.

The president, a former real estate magnate, presented three models of different sizes of the triumphal arch and said that his favorite is the largest and crowned by a sculpture of the Roman goddess of liberty.

Since returning to power in January, Trump has signaled his intention to leave a lasting mark on Washington. For example, he paved the White House Rose Garden, decorated the Oval Office with gilded ornaments and is building a grand ballroom in the presidential residence, in the style of his private mansion at the Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

Also, the Republican president deployed the National Guard in the capital to fight crime, despite the opposition of local Democratic officials.
