Simona Stan, the sister of the former interior minister Carmen Dan, was detained for 24 hours, together with another woman, and will be presented before the magistrates with a legal proposal, because she allegedly used unreal qualities to deceive several people with the total amount of around 1,300,000 euros.

  • Judicial sources explained to HotNews that the two women managed to deceive several people, whom they convinced to buy apartments and luxury cars from two companies. In reality, these goods did not belong to them, nor to the respective companies.
  • In this case, Carmen Dan was also called to hearings, as a witness. Businessman Cristi Borcea, former owner of Dinamo, was also called to the hearings as a witness.

The police officers of the Sector 2 Economic Crime Investigation Service executed, on Thursday, 16 home search warrants in the city of Bucharest and in the counties of Ilfov, Argeș and Buzau, in a case in which two women are being investigated for allegedly using unreal qualities to deceive several people with a total amount of around 1,300,000 euros, Agerpres cites.

Among the names used in the fraud crimes, alongside Carmen Dan, is that of Cristi Borcea, the former financier of the Dinamo Bucharest team.

In August 2024, the police of the Capital were notified by several people that they had been deceived regarding the purchase of some houses and some cars.

According to the investigators, from 2022 to the present, two women, aged 51 and 46, respectively, would have created a criminal mechanism by which they would have used unreal qualities – people with decision-making power within refining and marketing companies, respectively transporting petroleum products -, in order to induce the injured persons to acquire movable and immovable goods that were to come out of the patrimony of the respective commercial companies, through their division, and be sold at prices below market value, goods which, in reality, did not belong to the two trading companies.

The research showed that, in order to gain the trust of the victims, one of the women suspected of committing the act would have used the names of known people, according to the Capital Police.

In this context, in order to administer the evidentiary material, on Thursday, the police officers from the Sector 2 Economic Crime Investigation Service executed 16 home search warrants in the city of Bucharest and in the counties of Ilfov, Argeș and Buzau. Following the house searches, several items of interest were identified and seized.

Carmen Dan, heard as a witness

According to HotNews sources, one of the two women under investigation is Simona Stan, Carmen Dan's sister. She and the other woman targeted in the case claimed to be “important people” from OMV Petrom SA and Transpeco Logistic &Distribution and defrauded six people, five of whom were dentists. They told them that luxury cars and apartments belonging to these companies were being put up for sale and that if they gave them the money quickly, they would own it. These goods do exist in reality, but they did not belong to the companies invoked by the two, and they had no ownership rights over them.

According to the cited sources, most of the cheated people came through the other woman, who has a beauty salon in Bucharest.

Thus, the victims paid amounts between 67,000 euros and 426,000 euros, for several Mercedes G Class or Audi Q5 cars and for apartments in Bucharest, in areas such as Piața Unirii.

According to the same sources, the names of Carmen Dan and Cristian Borcea were used by the former minister's sister to sell the cars and apartments she did not own.
