Hansi Flick (60) clashed with Barcelona management over Lamine Yamal (18), leading to tensions at the club just days before the championship resumes.
Lamine Yamal is reportedly causing internal turmoil at Barcelona, with coach Hansi Flick clashing with club chiefs over the young star's handling of a disciplinary offence, according to sportal.gr.
Hansi Flick came into conflict with the management of Barcelona because of Lamine Yamal
The case, as revealed by the Catalan publication “ElNacional” and confirmed by “Cadena Ser”, caused tension in the relations between the German technician and the club officials. The reason was Yamal's late arrival to training on the eve of the Champions League match with Paris Saint-Germain, lost 1-2.
Hansi Flick, known for his adherence to discipline, reportedly decided to punish the player by leaving him out of the “first 11” for the clash with PSG. He informed Yamal of his decision, pointing out that the rules apply to everyone, without exception, in the locker room.
However, the management of Barcelona had a different opinion. According to reports, Alejandro Echevarria, a close associate of president Joan Laporta, intervened, pressuring sporting director Deco to persuade Flick to reverse his decision.
This intervention paid off as Lamine Yamal, who had just returned from injury, finally started as a starter.
This development displeased the German coach, who saw the pressure as an undermining of his authority. Spanish media reports that Flick was more bothered by the management's intervention than the player's delay. For its part, the club has tried to downplay the issue, with sources denying the incident and others claiming it was dealt with internally with no further consequences.
Yamal's entourage denied any disciplinary misconduct, talking about exaggerations from the media. The young Spaniard has not played since the PSG match due to a groin injury. His return is expected on Saturday against Girona, with the aim of being available for both the crucial Champions League clash with Olympiakos and the upcoming 'El Clásico' against Real Madrid.
