“Productive” Trump-Putin conversation. The media see a threat to Ukraine


US President Donald Trump announced that he had ended his telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. As he said, the conversation was “very productive” and both leaders were to discuss, among others: the issue of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. Trump said that talking to Putin “could help bring about an end to Russia's war with Ukraine.” He announced that when the conflict ends, the US and Russia will talk about… expanding trade cooperation.

At the end of the conversation, he said, both leaders agreed meeting of its senior advisers next week.
The first stage will be talks between representatives of both sides. He is to lead the American delegation Secretary of State Marco Rubioalong with other representatives of the administration (they have not yet been named). The location of these talks has not yet been determined.

The Wall Street Journal recalls that after Trump's August meeting with Putin in Alaska, the president expressed frustration with the Russian position and the lack of progress in ending the war in Ukraine. Although he did not rule out imposing sanctions on Russia at the time, none have been introduced so far. Also in the last entry after the conversation with Putin, Trump did not indicate the possibility of applying sanctions, instead focusing on trade issues between the US and Russia after the end of the conflict.
