Preliminary plans to build an international research station on the moon (ILRS), a project under the aegis of the Chinese and Russian space agency, assume the placement of a nuclear reactor on the surface of the moon – according to the Thursday presentation of Pei Zhaoyu, Chinese engineer of Chinese Mission Chang'e 8.

The ILRS plan presented in 2024 assumes the construction of the “basic model” of the station at the southern pole of the moon until 2035.
The Chang 8 mission, which is scheduled for 2028, is to prepare the ground for the construction of a permanent, manned moon base.
The source of energy for the base can also be large -scale solar panels, which will be arranged on the surface of the silver globe – Pei told during the presentation.
China, who have their own space station, want to send taiconauts to the moon by 2030.
The Artemis program of the American NASA agency assumes the return of astronauts earlier, because in December 2025.
According to the plans announced by the Chinese Space Agency, CNSA and Russian Roskosmos, ILRS is to give the opportunity to conduct long -term research in many fields, and in the further perspective to be a base for manned missions.
