Horațiu Potra, targeted by a new file: weapons and money were allegedly introduced into the country with the help of officials

A new file opened by the General Prosecutor's Office targets Horațiu Potra. The investigation concerns the way in which the weapons and the sums of cash that the prosecutors found during the searches of his residence were introduced into Romania.
The clarification was made by the general prosecutor Alex Florenta, in an interview for Europa Libera.
“The fact that (the arsenal) was in a house was elucidated. It was not possible to establish the exact moment when that weaponry was introduced in Romania (…). There are elements that are currently the subject of a separate investigation, in order to analyze through the prism of the data we already have how this weaponry and not only that, but also the sums of money entered Romania to be used. This file is at the General Prosecutor's Office“, declared the general prosecutor of Romania.
Alex Florența emphasized that there are elements that show that the weaponry was introduced into Romania “with the support of some officials”.
“It is more than certain that they had support from the airport area. There are elements that we are analyzing in a separate investigation, we are doing research on these aspects, including the flights made from Congo to Romania at Sibiu airport. It is an element that we are investigating”said Alex Florence.
We remind you that the lawyers of Horațiu Potra, detained in the United Arab Emirates, identified a legal loophole and requested the cancellation of the arrest warrant in absentia, arguing that an essential procedural provision was not respected.
However, on October 10, the judges of the Bucharest Court of Appeal rejected the request of Horaţiu Potra's lawyers to cancel the arrest warrant in absentia.
On September 16, Horațiu Potra was sent to court together with former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, under the charge of attempted coup d'état.
At the same time, he is accused in another case, in connection with the organization of violent actions in the context of protests held in the Capital last winter.
On September 18, Horatiu Potra, the internationally wanted mercenary, his son and brother, were detained in the United Arab Emirates.
Former fighter in the Foreign Legion and president of the Association of Romanians who served in the French Legion (RALF), Horațiu Potra brokered security contracts for personnel and objectives, especially in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. He is known for mercenary activities in Africa, including training the Congolese army, and has a criminal record — serving a suspended sentence for illegal possession of firearms.
