Grease in the kitchen is one of the most annoying household problems. It settles not only on the stove, but also on the hood, splashback, cabinet doors, even on the walls and ceiling. Over time, it turns yellow, absorbs dust and turns into a sticky residue that neither water nor ordinary detergent will remove. Many people start scrubbing until there are holes with a sponge, buy aggressive chemicals with a pungent odor, or put off cleaning until “later,” and then give up altogether.
But in fact, you can deal with fat without chemicals. You will need baking soda, which is found in almost every kitchen.
Baking soda is a mild abrasive and an alkali at the same time. It does not scratch surfaces if used correctly, but at the same time effectively destroys fatty deposits, turning them into an easily washed off mass. It also neutralizes odors and does not leave toxic traces, which is especially important if there are children or allergy sufferers in the house.
How to do it:
- Prepare the paste: mix 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda with a small amount of warm water to make a thick, but not dry paste like sour cream.
Apply to dirt: cover oily areas with a thick layer. If the fat is old, you can lightly rub the paste in a circular motion. - Leave for 5-10 minutes. During this time, the soda will absorb the fat and begin to break it down. In heavily soiled areas, you can leave it on for 15 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water or wipe with a damp microfiber cloth.
Store-bought products often contain chlorine, ammonia or surfactants, which can cause irritation to the skin and respiratory tract. Soda is natural and safe. Moreover, in terms of effectiveness against fat, it is often ahead of even “professional” sprays.
By regularly using this method once a week, you can avoid old fat altogether.
