Sweden is tracking a Russian submarine. The unit is circling the Baltic Sea

A Russian submarine entered the Baltic Sea through the Danish Great Belt strait and is currently being monitored by us, the Swedish armed forces announced on Wednesday. According to the media, this is the unit whose failure was joked by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

As the military said in a statement with a photo, the Russian submarine as it surfaces is followed by a Swedish warship and Gripen planes. The operation is carried out in cooperation with allies from the Kattegat Strait and is of a routine nature, it was emphasized.

According to the Swedish public broadcaster SVT, the Russian ship is a diesel-electric vessel of the NATO code “Kilo” class that crashed in the English Channel. Mark Rutte joked about the incident on Monday. – What a change from Tom Clancy's novel The Hunt for Red October. On Saturday, the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced that the country's navy had escorted the ship Novorossiysk and its accompanying tug Yakov Grebelsky in the North Sea.

Earlier, the British Royal Navy announced that it had tracked a Russian ship returning from a mission in the Mediterranean Sea on October 7-9. On October 9, NATO's Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) published an entry on the X platform with photos showing a French Navy frigate observing a Russian submarine off the coast of Brittany. The readiness of the North Atlantic Alliance to defend itself was assured.
