German fighters in Poland. Eurofighters will fly to Malbork

In order to protect NATO's eastern flank, Germany will deploy Eurofighter fighters at the Malbork airport, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on Wednesday in Brussels. The planes will participate in patrols.

As Reuters specifies, citing a spokesman for the German Ministry of Defense, these are two Eurofighter fighters. They are to be stationed in Poland from December to March next year. The 22nd Tactical Air Base is located at the airport near Malbork.

Pistorius is in Brussels, where a ministerial meeting of NATO countries is taking place with the participation of the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth. The German minister also stated that Germany intends to allocate EUR 10 billion for various types of drones in the coming years.

In defense of NATO's eastern flank Germany is involved in, among others: by providing air defense of the Rzeszów-Jasionka Airportthe largest aid hub for Ukraine. German soldiers are carrying out a mission here as part of the NATO initiative regarding military support for Ukraine.

Politicians from the government coalition in Germany, led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, openly express concern about Russia's actions, especially in the face of the detection of drone swarms over German territory. The head of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Martin Jaeger, told the Bundestag on Monday that a “heated confrontation” with Russia was possible at any time. (PAP)
