The brewery in Namysłów will cease production at the beginning of 2026 – Grupa Żywiec announced in a press release, explaining the decision by the decline in the beer market, rising costs and taxes. According to the mayor of Namysłów, Jacek Fior, about a hundred people may lose their jobs in one of the oldest breweries in Poland.

“In the face of the decline in the beer market, rising costs and taxes, at the beginning of 2026 Grupa Żywiec will discontinue production at Browar Namysłów. Brewery employees will receive a full severance package and additional support agreed with the trade unions” – Grupa Żywiec announced on its website.
She added that is conducting advanced talks with investors regarding the sale of the brewery's assets. “Their details are covered by confidentiality agreements. The company will continue brewing its brands in other breweries,” the company said.
According to the mayor of Namysłów, Jacek Fior, the decision to discontinue beer production in the brewery founded in 1321 at the beginning of 2026 is a problem both for the city, which has been associated with this plant for centuries, and for the staff.
According to the mayor, he received information about the abandonment of beer production in Namysłów from the company's representatives, who assured him of the support that will be provided to all employees who lose their jobs. According to the mayor, this is a group of about one hundred people.
In a statement for the regional radio station Radio Opole, the mayor expressed hope that the company's decision is not the end of the brewery's history.
“Once again, our brewery will be at a turning point and I believe that it is only a turning point. We all know that the brewery has been operating since 1321. After Wieliczka, the Wieliczka mine, it is the second oldest enterprise in Poland that exists and continues to produce. I would not like this brewery's history to end with the current owner, despite many twists in history,” said Mayor Fior.
Grupa Żywiec is part of the Heineken concern, in Poland it owns breweries in Żywiec, Warka, Namysłów and Elbląg. (PAP)
