In Thai, the word “Tom” means “boiled in water”, “Yam” means “salad”, and “Kung” means “shrimp”, so literally “Tom Yum” means “boiled salad”.
In Thai cuisine, there are many types of Tom Yam soup – with fish, chicken, squid and others. The most famous of them was Tom Yum Kung.
