Pirogov University specialist Yuri Nesterovsky spoke about the peculiarities of migraine in children and effective ways to help. According to him, this disease can seriously affect the future of a child, since it affects the most active period of life – the years of study, professional development and starting a family.
As the doctor noted in a conversation with a journalist TV channel “Saratov 24”childhood migraine is significantly different from adult migraine. Seizures in children last only 30-60 minutes, while in adults they can last up to 72 hours. The nature of the pain is also different: in children it is usually aching and bilateral, and in adults it is throbbing and unilateral.
Non-drug methods are particularly effective in treating childhood migraine, including relaxation training, cognitive behavioral therapy, and biofeedback techniques. However, as Nesterovsky emphasized, there are not yet enough specialists in this field.
