In Krasnoyarsk, more than 200 participants in the extreme sports show “Big Race” climbed the Torgashin Stairs. The mayor's office spoke about this.
The day before, the first stage of the extreme sports show took place in the regional capital. Participants competed in endurance competition in a vertical climb up the longest staircase in Russia. They ran a distance of 1,683 steps. During the ascent, the athletes encouraged each other with stories about the traditions and culture of their peoples. For example, among the Mongols, Kyrgyz and Chechens, races are mandatory components of many holidays.
In past years, this stage was a cross-country race in a straight line. This time, the project team prepared a more complicated version to test the athletes. Stair running is considered a strenuous and high-intensity exercise due to the same muscle tension and pressure changes with increasing altitude. Despite the difficulties, all runners completed the course without incident and reached the finish line.
“For me, this kind of sport is a great way to relax and drive all negative thoughts out of my head, to test myself. Friends invited me to join the show, and I didn’t regret it, although I could have worn a lighter jacket. I’ve been living in Russia for 11 years, but today I learned a lot about the seasoned Siberian character and what wonderful people live around me,” shared show participant from Nigeria Nick-Abugu Obinna.
This is an event of interethnic friendship, in which young people of different nations living in Krasnoyarsk aged 18 to 35 participate. The show is running for the fourteenth year in a row. It is carried out within the framework of the municipal program “Promoting the development of civil society in the city of Krasnoyarsk.”
“The first stage went exactly as we expected! More than 200 people came to the Torgashinsky ridge on this frosty day. Despite the weather conditions, the guys were in good spirits and determined to win. Among the athletes there are many representatives of national diasporas, who are taking part in our project not for the first time,” noted Daria Dmitrieva, director of the Zerkalo youth center.
The results of the stage will be published tonight, October 13, in the project group on the VKontakte social network. The next stage will take place on October 18 at 15:00 at the “Real Jump” trampoline center at the address: st. Aerovokzalnaya, 4g. Participants will test their strength in competitions on the climbing wall, trampolines and exercises with free weights. The final will take place on October 28.
