Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski announced on Monday that he will meet his American counterpart, Donald Trump in Washington on Friday, where the two will discuss Ukraine's anti -aircraft and long -distance attack capabilities, Reuters reported.
The two leaders discussed both on Saturday and Sunday, against the background of intensifying negotiations on the possible provision of Long-range Tomahawk to Kiev, and a Ukrainian delegation led by Prime Minister Iulia Sviridenko is to be a visit to Washington before Friday's meeting.
Kiev has pressure on Washington to provide these missiles in the US, which have the ability to hit Moscow, but which, according to Ukrainians, would be used only against military targets. Moscow said such a movement would be a serious conflict and a major deterioration of his relationships with Washington.
Zelenski said that he gave Trump, who has expressed more and more frustration to Russia in recent weeks, an idea of the number of Tomahawk missiles that Ukraine needs.
“Honestly, we have already shared our vision with Trump (…), but some of these things cannot be discussed on the phone, so we will meet,” the Ukrainian leader said in the reporters in Kiev.
Trump said he was considering sending missiles to Ukraine, although he also said that he could discuss this with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Ukraine and the US are also on the verge of concluding a historical agreement on drones, in which Ukraine would share with the United States its technology developed during the war on unmanned appliances. European diplomats believe that such an agreement is an important tool to maintain the commitment and support for Ukraine of the US president, known for his unpredictable character.
The diplomatic efforts to end the war, now in the fourth year, have stagnated, as Russia intensifies the attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and continues to gain victories on the battlefield.
Zelenski also stated that it will meet with representatives of American energy companies to discuss the current Ukraine needs, in the context of what he described as a change in Moscow tactics in attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
The Russian forces recently targeted the Ukrainian gas production and the country's electric network, Zelenski adding that Kiev could soon be forced to start the import of electricity.
Ukraine, Ukraine, made attacks on Russian oil refineries, causing a gasoline shortage.
