Romania, European champion in young people without occupation. “I submitted CVs, but nobody called me”

Romania is in the first place in the European Union in the number of young people who do not work or follow a form of education. According to a Eurostat report, two out of ten Romanians between the ages of 15 and 29 are in this situation, well above the European average.

Although the state frequently organizes job fairs dedicated to young people, many of those who come in the hope of finding a job are hit by the refusal of employers, who ask for professional experience – a requirement difficult to meet at the beginning of the road.
“I have submitted CVs, but I have not received any answer. I am looking for, but it is difficult to hire someone without experience.” says George, a graduate of public administration, who has not worked for a year, for Digi24.
Manuela, 26 years old, former data operator, also looks for a new professional direction: “I was interested in the army. It seems to me a serious, future career. Even though I have to study, I am willing.”
Many young people admit that they would also accept the minimum wage just to gain experience. “It is a vicious circle: you are asked for experience, but nobody gets you to acquire it,” says a young participant in the University Fair “The Danube de Jos” from Galati.
Even so, the interest for the available jobs is not lacking. “We have six places available and we received 17 CVs only today”, said an employer present at the event.
According to the County Agency for Employment Galati, about 1,000 young people participated in the fair, and 380 of them were selected for employment interviews.
