Zelensky and Trump discussed the issue of transferring American Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine – Axios

They did not say whether a final decision had been made to transfer the missiles to Kyiv.

One of the media interlocutors said that the conversation between the presidents lasted about 30 minutes.

As Axios noted, Tomahawk missiles will give Ukraine the ability to strike rear areas deep into Russia, including Moscow.

Kyiv claims that this will help force the illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, the media emphasized.

Zelensky called the conversation with Trump “good” and “very productive.”

According to the Ukrainian president, he and Trump, among other things, discussed the possibility of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. “There are good options, strong ideas on how to really strengthen us,” Zelensky emphasized after his conversation with Trump.

Context

Presidents Trump and Zelensky had a conversation after a massive air attack by the aggressor country of the Russian Federation on the night of October 10, which led to power outages in several regions of Ukraine.

Zelensky, commenting on a possible blackout in Moscow in response to the Russian attack, said on October 10 that Ukraine’s task is to respond to the enemy.

Ukraine, in particular, asks the United States to transfer American Tomahawk cruise missiles to it.

Trump said on October 6 that he needed to find out what the Ukrainians would do with Tomahawk – “where to send them.” “Perhaps I should ask this question,” the American president emphasized then.

The U.S.-made Tomahawk cruise missiles have a much longer range than the missiles Ukraine has received so far and are better suited for striking targets such as weapons depots than the drones Ukraine currently uses to strike Russia over long distances, Axios reported.

The Kremlin noted that supplies of American Tomahawks to Ukraine would lead to the destruction of relations between the Russian Federation and the United States, “in any case, positive trends in relations.”

The Russian response to Tomahawk in Ukraine will be to strengthen the Russian air defense system, illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 10. He also announced the appearance of a supposedly “new type of weapon” in the Russian Federation.
