The winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize dedicated it to the people of Venezuela and “ally” Trump

“I dedicate this award to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his strong support of our cause,” the Venezuelan opposition leader wrote.

She noted that today the people of Venezuela “are on the verge of victory” and, more than ever, count on the United States, Trump, the people of Latin America and the democratic countries of the world as “the main allies in achieving freedom and democracy.”

In an interview with representatives of the Nobel Committee, Corina Machado said that the award of the prize was unexpected for her (the audio recording was published in the X Prize).

“I still can't believe it […] I'm just part of a big movement. “I am grateful and proud not only of this recognition, but also that I am part of what is happening today in Venezuela,” she emphasized.

Context

Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize more than once, but has not yet received it. Axios wrote that the US president has been “obsessed” with winning the Nobel Peace Prize for years, which became the subtext of his dispute with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on February 28 at the White House.

On September 2, Trump said he was not seeking the Nobel Peace Prize. On October 1, he repeated that he did not want to receive the Nobel Prize, while at the same time emphasizing that it would be a “great insult” for the United States if he did not receive the prize.

Experts interviewed by Reuters predicted that Trump would be left without the peace prize this year because he is destroying the international world order, which the committee that determines the prize winners “cherishes” it.

On October 8, Zelensky promised that if Trump transferred long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv for protection against occupiers, Ukraine would nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize. On October 10, Putin aide Yuri Ushakov said Russia would support awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Trump.

On October 10, the Nobel Committee awarded the 2025 Peace Prize to Maria Corina Machado for her “tireless work promoting the democratic rights of the people of Venezuela and fighting for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

The White House said the Nobel committee was guided by policies that were “more important than peace.”
