An explosion occurred on Friday at the Accurate Energetic Systems plant near Bucksnort in the US state of Tennessee, CNN reported. The factory was responsible for the production of explosives for the US army.

The Hickman County Sheriff's Office confirmed the explosion. “Emergency services are working at the scene,” the statement reads.

“Please avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their duties. If you are nearby, please keep a safe distance and follow the instructions of local authorities,” the officers appealed.

Local media report that there are dead and injured. WMSV4 reported that 19 people were missing. However, in an interview with AFP, the police said that it is currently impossible to determine the exact number of victims.

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis reported several deaths and several people missing. — We try to take care of the victims' families. When we know more, we will be the first to notify them, he said.

Chris Davies also warned that the main explosion as part of a chain reaction could lead to further, smaller explosions. It is not yet clear what may have caused the explosion.
